Many years ago when I started selling supplements I was unaware of the constant changes I would witness over the years. According to some studies, a vitamin is good for you one year and the next it can be proven harmful.
With all these changes, you can figure out which studies are bogus and which are legit. The topic I will discuss today is one that bothers me and to many people are jumping on this trend to quickly. It's the craze of taking Vitamin D in mega doses.
Vitamin D is great for bone health, mood and immune system and about 5 years ago it was pretty much unheard of to take more than 1000IU's. I can remember taking bottles of multivitamins and checking how much D was in it because it was always taboo to take more than 1000IU's.
Then about 2 years ago, it became acceptable to take 2000IU's, that seemed like a big leap but nothing prepared me for the mega doses of 50 000IU's that some people take.
This to me seems crazy!! Almost overnight (figure of speech) you could take handfuls of Vitamin D.
My worry is that somewhere 10 + years from now people will find out these mega doses are harmful, and that seriously scares me.
I suggest taking 1000-2000 IU's per day for great health. If you want to take more the choice is yours, but think to yourself;
Do I really need to take mega doses of something to get benefits from it?
Stay motivated
